What is BSP?
Brainspotting is a powerful, focused treatment method that works by identifying, processing, and releasing core neuro-physiological sources of emotional and physical pain, and unhealthy coping mechanisms associated with PTSD, Complex PTSD, PTSI, trauma depression and anxiety. It allows the client to channel the healthy "head" knowledge they already possess to transform debilitating traumatic memories and negative core beliefs.
How does it work and what does a session look like? Brainspotting is a 1-1.5 hour session of sit down treatment. The session begins by identifying a discomfort, a need, or a want, an unhealthy lifetime/personal belief, a triggering event or situation of recurring anxiety, fear, depression or mental block. Some or all of these may present themselves in different variations or combinations. Once identified we find where in the body this discomfort is found and what it feels like. The client then describes how their situation is affecting their life and how it will continue to do so if not resolved. However, the client does not need to speak or "tell the story" about the experienced trauma or events in order for this treatment to be effective; just the ability to connect with their mind and body while thinking of the issue is enough. Once attuned to the issue we will then work together using a pointer tool to locate a spot in the client's field of vision that activates the discomfort. Settling on this spot we give time and space for the brain to connect body and mind with the “spot” in their vision for a core neuro-physiological release that can look like many different ways. Sometimes physical effects like talking, crying, shaking, trembling, rapid breathing, pounding heart can happen. With the body, mind and heart connected, the brain can recognize the trauma and work on understanding, processing and releasing. Once the client feels release, a sense of lightness and peace are often experienced.
● What are the effects of BSP? The effects can range from client to client and in different time frames. The effects depend on the trauma or discomfort and severity. Effects can almost always be felt immediately and the client often experience a lightness or release of pain or tension. After a session a client can be tired, feel somewhat disconnected. It is often best to schedule a session when you have some time to yourself afterwards. The processing can continue for hours or days where the brain will come to realize or “figure things out” with events, views or patterns of thinking. This is often described as “ah-ha” moments or breakthroughs in their thinking. Total mind health transformations can sometimes be seen in as little as five to seven sessions.
● Who should use BSP? BSP rapid trauma therapy is for anyone who is experiencing daily or situational discomfort in their life. It is found to be very helpful for people who have experienced trauma and suffer from anxiety, depression, physical pain or emotional blockage. It is useful for everyone who desires to change in positive physical and mental ways to become their best selves.
